What's the difference in acquiring digital rights compared to physical, especially for eBook format? Thanks in advance if you answer.

Umm… One is for an eBook and one is for a print book. It really is that simple.
First, every contract is different. Terms, references, rates… are often going to vary.
But the biggest difference is with eBooks is the fact that there are more platforms, more formats, more distributors and all that changes contracts.
Platforms: in some contacts we need to inform the rights holder of where the eBook will be available - nook, kindle, kobo, google play, CR Manga….
Formats: this is important whether the book is cloud based, downloadable, DRM-free….
Distributors: Ala carte, subscription or serialized…
All those variables can impact the amount of money and frequency of payments US licensors send to Japan.
